America – the Story of US – Declaration of Independence

July 2nd, 2019 No comments
AmericaTheStoryofUSDeclarationOfIndependenceMastheadManufacturedHomeIndustryCommentaryMHProNews

Still from second video, below. Collage by MHProNews.

Millions of Americans were taught or acquired a sanitized or weaponized view of American history. Even those of us who focused on history in high school and at university were to varying degrees tainted by the perspective of instructors, pop culture, or textbooks.

All of human history, not just American history, can be oversimplified as a struggle for increased freedom by some against the efforts of conquest or oppression by others. That’s a tonyism you may not find anywhere else. Keep that in mind, test it, and see if it proves useful time and again in understanding the past or current events.

Some never ponder conquering or oppressing others, just as some have a hard time imagining how individuals who have options might opt for a life of crime. For those, the notion of con men or manipulative forces doesn’t come readily. Thus, it might need additional information and evidence for that reality to be accepted. Mindful of it, there are times regular and longtime readers know this writer has admittedly been surprised by the truth too.

Every person or generation that opts not to accept oppression has their own unique fights for liberty and freedom.

It’s sad that millions of youth don’t fully appreciate, for example, how unique the American revolution, the abolition movement, and the Civil War were. True, other nations had their own struggles with slavery and indentured servitude. There are several other examples in world history of a dominated people of a country fighting off the occupation forces of others.

But the Declaration of Independence nevertheless stands apart from much of humanity’s story.

The first four-minute video helps sets the table for the Declaration. Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers were well versed in history, literature, and matters of faith. None were perfect. So, it is no surprise that their declaration and the aftermath were imperfect too.

But from an objective view of history, perhaps the most famous part of the Declaration reflects a unique vision for humanity, and we should be mindful that the term ‘men’ could easily be construed in this context as humans both male and female.

We hold these truths to be self-evident. That all men are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. That among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” The first draft read ‘life, liberty and property.’ The notion of privately-owned property was not new, nor were legal protections for property ownership novel. Those can be found in ancient biblical and other texts.

But stating them in such a political document as the premise for rebellion against the British monarch, that was notable. Enumerating the various ways that the English king violated those rights, that was meant to help rally support among the colonists for American Independence.

There is a stark contrast between using law as a means of safeguarding rights including property, vs creating laws that gave rulers rights and powers over the masses.

It is not a slam to say that America has never been perfect, that is just reality.

But it is useful and inspiring to ponder that slow march and the uneven rise and retreats over the years for people striving for freedom and self-government.

The history of America’s battle against not only British rule, but also against monopolistic power in the U.S. are useful to ponder for members of our industry.

We never tire of celebrating the good already achieved, mindful of the traps and swindles that have also existed, past and present.

Freedom is never free. It always comes at a price. It always requires effort and vigilance. But freedom is arguably worth the effort.

George Orwell had socialistic beliefs, so his insights were arguably somewhat flawed. But he nevertheless grasped that understanding history was important. Being detached from history makes the misinformed or the ignorant vulnerable.

Day by day we strive to authentically tell what’s occurring in manufactured housing from the perspective of industry professionals, investors and affordable housing advocates on MHProNews. On our sister site, MHLivingNews tells the tale of America’s most proven form of affordable homes in a way that makes sense for a broader audience.

In both the public and professional instances, we are using information, evidence, and reason to combat misinformation. MHProNews | MHLivingNews are fights for economic, legal, evidence-based pride, and thus socially accepted independence.

The second video – which is a ballad – tells a tale that may technically not seem to be related to Independence Day, or is it? It has over 8.9 million views.

In a sense, independence day began on July 2, when the draft of the declaration was done.  But it was formalized on July 4, which is the official holiday.  The words on the Liberty Bell say, “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof.” (Lev 25:10).  Personal, economic, political, and religious freedom all go hand-in hand.  Happy Independence Day, an important part of the story of U.S.

They are industry professionals that currently hail from primarily south-central or southern states. They may hunt, fish, go to the honky-tonk, or go four wheeling in the mud for fun.  They’re routinely patriots – people of faith, flag, and family, who love the constitution and their second amendment protected guns.

They sell, build pads, transport, install, and service factory-built homes.

You ever had your feelings so hurt you turned down millions of dollars? Clayton just did that. They are refusing to sell TRU homes to Triple C in Conroe because he quit Clayton to become an independent. A threatening email from Clayton retail to Clayton manufacturing sealed the deal. Ask yourself this question…Could you as an independent call Clayton and get them to not sell homes to another store because the manager once worked for you? It won’t be long before Clayton wants your cornbread too.”

Not unlike their warning to their followers about what they allege occurred between Clayton Homes, Heath Jenkins and Regional Enterprises, they are raising possible antitrust issues.

It’s not just a T-shirt to us. Yesterday Clayton met with Heath Jenkins of Regional enterprises and informed him they would no longer be paying him rebate (essentially cutting them off without having to repurchase) Regional purchased $40m from Clayton in 2018, making Heath their largest retailer. Why would Clayton do something like this? Because he opened a plant and hired some of their people. If they would purposely go out and rape their largest dealer, what chance do the rest of us have? Clayton has convinced hundreds of independents they are your business partner, but make no mistake, they are your largest competitor.”

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.

Warren Kicked Hornet’s Nest – How Move May Connect With MH, Renters, Professionals

March 10th, 2019 No comments

WarrenKickedHornet'sNextHowMoveMayConnectWithMHRentersSmallBusinessProfessionalsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Successful politicians and good brands have much in common.

Consider for a moment how Acura’s video commercial made a mark in the blogosphere, one that caused scores of keyboards and social media posts to go favorably wagging. “The [Acura automotive] ad is buoyed by Motörhead’s rendition of the Rolling Stone’s classic, Sympathy for the Devil, as the auto does its best sportscar-style moves,” said The Drum.

Every successful professional or politico knows the value of good social and mainstream media. But something must happen to grab that spotlight.  On Friday, Team Warren kicked the hornet’s nest of big business.  Which means that her fight is now on.

What every business, person, or politicians needs is energy. That Acura commercial – it has energy. The Warren campaign arguably just lifted their energy level.

Wittingly or not, for good or ill, there is no doubt that Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA-D) has several touch-points with manufactured housing professional interests.

Let’s be blunt.

Some in MHVille cheer her, while others jeer. But that too has potential energizing value for a firebrand like Warren.  As her hoped for GOP counterpart in the Oval Office has demonstrated, one can rise in the polls, even when controversial.  Sometimes, one rises in the polls, especially when a person or organization are shaking things up.

On MHProNews’ Masthead editorial blog, let’s note for new readers that Senator Warren – the long-shot for the 2020 Democratic nominee for president – has addressed groups that included MHAction. She was a driving force behind Dodd-Frank and the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Those won’t earn her fan mail from several quarters.  We hope to engage with their campaign on those issues. That said, let’s now turn to the plus column.

Friday, the Warren campaign’s emailed statement to MHProNews stressed her emphasis on antitrust legislation.  Of course that campaign plank will cause shivers for some, but may draw curious smiles from others who are small- to mid-sized business professionals.

Warren’s strongly stated antitrust stance ought to have Republicans, President Donald J. Trump, independents, and her fellow Democrats pondering the 22 million who live in a pre-HUD Code mobile home, or a post June 15, 1976 manufactured home.  Why?  How might that target audience swing in the 2020 nomination battle?  Will breaking up mega-corporations play well during table talk at the community clubhouse?

InfographicMobileManufacturedHomeManufacturedHousingIndustryFactsDataResearchMobileManufacturedHomeLivingNews-445x768

Or consider the larger-still potential voting block of renters. They are over 100 million living in rentals, said CityLabs in 2018.  The vast majority of renters, per the National Association of Realtors ™ (NAR), want to be homeowners.

NAR’s Scholastica ‘Gay’ Cororaton, CBE, did research that praised manufactured homes in 2018.  Cororaton noted in her research that millions of renters pay the same or more monthly as what it would cost them to live in a manufactured home. She also debunked several of the quality concerns, noting that was true of pre-HUD Code mobile homes, not post HUD Code manufactured homes.  Here’s how she phrased it.

Each photo is of a modern manufactured home, which can be 2400 sq ft or more in size, 1 or 2 levels, set over a basement, or can be as modest as 320 sq ft. These homes are all built to federal construction and safety standards that went into effect on June 15, 29176, administered by HUD, and are thus known as “HUD Code Manufactured Homes.”

Recall, that Cororaton thoughtfully cited moi and the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform‘s (MHARR) Mark Weiss, JD, in her through research’s first footnote, on page 48.

TrailerHouseMobileHomeManufacturedHomeFactoryBuiltHousingEvolution101MHProNews-MHLivingNews

Renters and manufactured home owners are in a very real sense aspirational audiences that any savvy candidate should desire.

Who says?

In August of 2016, an op-ed in the New York Times noted that the “Downwardly Mobile for Trump.” That column cited a survey that revealed “Support for Mr. Trump wasn’t strongly related to income and employment.” That included the residents of mobile and manufactured homes, per the NY Times and others.

Curious about that claim, MHProNews did an unscientific survey of campaign signs and bumper stickers in a four star manufactured home community as Election Day 2016 approached. Our informal research confirmed the NY Times claim. The clear edge among manufactured home owners favored then GOP candidate Mr. Trump over Democratic nominee Secretary Hillary Clinton.

Why Does this Matter to MHVille Now?

The 2020 campaign has been in full swing for months. It will only get hotter. With a crowded field, and with the first debates ahead, the contenders must differentiate themselves.

Voters and donors must make early choices.

What follows are the 3 key words from the Warren Campaign email yesterday.  It will be followed by her campaign’s  pitch.  For those that know our editorial views, you won’t be surprised when we smile while sharing these 3 bullets from the Warren camp.

  • Antitrust
  • Monopolies
  • Breakup

Senator Warren isn’t just taking about regulating big companies, she wants to break the giant conglomerates up. On her 3 bullets, 3 cheers.

As you read the sections of their statements that will follow, ponder this fact. Your Masthead writer shared a pair of links – one of which is below, that the Warren campaign – which renounced major donors – received with enthusiastic thanks and interest.  As veteran readers on MHProNews know, you can access the report by clicking the hot-linked text-image box below.

Bridging Gap$, Affordable Housing Solution Yields Higher Pay, More Wealth, But Corrupt, Rigged Billionaire’s Moat is Barrier

Strategic Allies?

Rephrased, there are pragmatic strategic reasons why the Warren’s campaign may want to publicly lash out at a billionaire who’s first name matches her last.  There are likewise strategic reasons why if Warren did so publicly, there are numbers of independent manufactured housing professionals that could find her the more appealing Democratic candidate in their bid to recapture the Oval Office.  Because those independents don’t want to be treated as the de facto serfs of Warren Buffett’s growing empire.  Here are just two screen captures from the Twitter feed of Austin Frerick, of the Open Markets Institute (OMI).

Warren Buffett’s monopolistic tendencies in manufactured housing have sparked years of controversy that the Seattle Times, BuzzFeed, Representative Maxine Waters (CA-D), the Open Market’s Austin Freric (see graphics, above and below), GuruFocus, the Nation, Democracy Now, and others.  They’ve found Clayton Homes and their problematic record on race, business practices, and lending worthy of their respective ire.

AustinFrerickOpenMarketsMaxineWatersBrianSullivanHUDClaytonHomes

Recall how Clayton’s home town media put it in 2018?  See the reminder, below.

What better way for Senator Warren to grab headlines, and the potential interests of millions in the misunderstood and under-appreciated groups noted above, than to go after the third richest man in America?  Namely, Warren Buffett?

What better way for her to set herself apart from the crowd than to use the facts we’ve shared with her campaign, to highlight Buffett and his minions in Knoxville and Arlington, VA for their purportedly harmful monopolistic Moat?

Weeks before Warren made her announcement on Friday, MHLivingNews spotlighted Senator Warren’s speech to the antitrust-minded Open Markets crowd.  It may be one of the best cases yet on how existing laws can be applied to go after the giant conglomerates.  That’s why we published it with some related commentary.  Her thesis is that there is no need for years of waiting for new legislation.  Warren says that the laws on the books are all that is needed for immediate action.

Who Will Act? Will Senator Elizabeth Warren, and/or the Trump Administration Act to Restore Open Markets, Thereby Supporting Affordable Manufactured Homes?

Can Warren and MHVille Democrats, Plus Others Connect?

Strategically, one can make the argument that this fits Senator Warren’s needs.  It also fits that 50 percent of the manufactured home industry – with far more people – could find reason to support someone like her if she will publicly oppose Buffett’s brands demonstrable take over of the most proven part of the affordable housing industry, through purported market manipulation via Moat building “Conquest Capitalism.” © Depending on how the discussions go with team Warren, MHProNews just might give Senator Warren’s campaign the green light to use that phrase “Conquest Capitalism” in her campaign.

With a wink, ICYMI, here is the report on that topic, accessed via the hot-linked text image box, below.

Conquest Capitalism – Thoughts of Chairman Warren Buffett – Billionaires Campaign to Control Trillion Dollar Affordable Housing Market

What about the Donald?

As a political independent, we make no secret about the fact that we supported President Trump in 2016.  His campaign thought so highly of the support by my Persian princess, Soheyla Kovach, that they placed her pro-Trump column on their campaign website. Soheyla’s endorsement remained there until the Trump site was redone, after the 2016 election.

No doubt Soheyla checked off several useful boxes for Team Trump.

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While it is anyone’s guess how many read it there on the Trump campaign site, what is better known is that thousands of other sites picked it up, per search results. Those remained active, or Google wouldn’t have registered it.

These are details the Warren camp, other campaigns, and manufactured housing professionals from coast-to-coast should ponder.

The Word from Warren

Even Republicans and libertarians should consider what follows carefully. Why? Because Elizabeth Warren – with who’s campaign we’ve made clear that there are stances she holds that we disagree with – is arguably dead right about the over-arching power of Big Tech and other monopolies. That’s another issue that long-standing MHProNews readers know we share.  That’s another cheer. Here’s a blast from the cited past. Compare what Scott Galloway, of New York Stern, said about what he called the Big Four in tech.

ScottGallowayNYSternIsntAnIndictmenFourRetributionRecognitionKeyHealthyEconomicCyclisPruningFirmsWhenInvasiveCausePrematureDeathWontLetOtherFirmsEmergeMHProNews

Good policy is not partisan. What Galloway said in this previously cited quote, finds echoes in what the Warren Campaign said below.

Even Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Friday night loudly sang Senator Warren’s praises on this specific antitrust announcement.  Yes, he reminded his readers that he sees other topics differently, just as we are doing herein.

With that lengthy background, let’s turn to how Elizabeth Warren has kicked the hornets nest so effectively, that it has set the media across the left-right spectrum abuzz.  There’s energy.

WarrenElizabethWarrenCampaign

Think about all the time you spend on the internet — checking the news, shopping, catching up with old friends, reading emails like this one.

Well, more and more of the things we do online are being controlled by a smaller and smaller group of giant corporations.

They’ve mastered a very powerful business model: Monopolize their platform and force other companies, media platforms, and publishers out of business.

If you buy something online, there’s a nearly 50% chance that you’re going through Amazon. If you go to any website, there’s more than a 70% chance that it’s owned or run by Google or Facebook.

America’s biggest tech companies are controlling more and more of our digital lives.

Here’s why tech companies with nearly unfettered power aren’t a good thing: They buy potential rivals, like Facebook did with Instagram and WhatsApp, limiting innovation and choice. They create marketplaces that they own and compete on — a conflict of interest that lets them snuff out smaller rivals — like Amazon and Google have done for shopping, search tools, and online ads.

They bully cities and states into showering them with massive taxpayer handouts — and spend the profits they get from being the only game in town to lobby and rig the rules even further in their favor.

They even scare investors away from funding new startups — because what’s the use in going up against a giant corporation that’ll just snap you up or drive you out of business?

This all means less competition, less innovation, and a worse internet for all of us. Think about it: If you’re not happy with Facebook’s privacy policy, maybe you’d like to spend your time on Instagram instead. Except, wait: Facebook owns Instagram.

We’ve got to call it out. And we’ve got to do something about it. So today, I’m proposing a new plan to break up the biggest tech companies and make sure these corporations don’t get so powerful that they undermine our democracy.

There’s a long history in America of breaking up companies if they have too much power in the marketplace: Standard Oil, AT&T, and the railroad industry led to the bipartisan creation of our first antitrust laws.

What I’m proposing is right in line with our country’s history — and it’s a big part of what has allowed our economy to grow and new companies to thrive.

Here’s how our plan works — there are two big pieces to it.

#1: Pass a new law for “Platform Neutrality.”

If you’re a ginormous tech company that’s created a platform for other businesses to compete on — like the Amazon marketplace, or the Google ad exchange — you shouldn’t also own a company that sells on it. Put simply: You shouldn’t be able to tilt the playing field in your own direction.

#2 Appoint regulators who’ll use existing legal tools to unwind tech mergers that illegally undermine competition.

With the antitrust laws that are already on the books, we can undo big mergers that never should have been approved in the first place — and give smaller and medium-sized companies a fighting chance to compete with the big guys. That means we break Facebook away from Instagram and WhatsApp, Amazon away from Whole Foods, Google away from Nest, and more. We could be doing this right now — but we need a president (ahem) who’ll appoint regulators to make it happen.

So what would the internet look like after all these reforms?

Here’s what won’t change: You’ll still be able to go on Google and search like you do today. You’ll still be able to go on Amazon and find 30 different coffee machines that you can get delivered to your house in two days. You’ll still be able to go on Facebook and see how your old friend from school is doing.

Here’s what will change: Small businesses would have a fair shot to sell their products on Amazon without the fear of Amazon pushing them out of business. Google couldn’t smother competitors by demoting their products on Google Search. Facebook would face real pressure from Instagram and WhatsApp to improve their user experience and protect our privacy. Tech entrepreneurs would have a fighting chance to compete against the tech giants.

This is how we’ll make sure we get more competition and more new ideas in the tech economy, instead of just a few giant tech companies calling all the shots — and regular people not having much say in the tools we use everyday.

That’s how we get innovation. That’s how we get an internet that does a better and better job of letting us stay connected with each other — from pictures of grandkids to emails and petitions like this one. That’s how we protect our privacy in a rapidly changing world.

We can get this done. We can make big, structural change. But it’s going to take a grassroots movement, and it starts right now.

Elizabeth

Sign the petition to support Elizabeth’s plan to break up the biggest tech companies that run the internet.

That way, we’ll get more competition, more innovation, and a better internet for all of us. But it’s going to take a grassroots movement to make this kind of big, structural change.

If we’re going to rebuild the middle class, then we’ve got to ensure competition in one of our country’s biggest and fastest-growing industries and a fighting chance for up-and-coming innovators.

If we’re going to save our democracy, then we’ve got to make sure these corporations don’t get so powerful that they undermine it.

Elizabeth has spent her career fighting to level the playing field for working families. So when she says she’s in this fight to take on the powerful corporations that are rigging the system, she means business — whether it’s big banks, big Pharma, or big tech companies.

Let’s send a message loud and clear: No corporation — not even Amazon, Google, or Facebook — should be so powerful that they bend cities and states to their will, or so big that they’re exempt from antitrust laws.

Thanks for being in this fight,

Team Warren

One More Thing…

We’d note one more point – linked above – for those from the Warren camp. That linked rundown on the Value Penguin site rounds out how her campaign (or any other), renters, and manufactured housing could find political alignment.

Good public policy is nonpartisan.

As we’ve been saying for years, on all things and all people, it’s about separating wheat from chaff. We would concur with Warren that there is strong evidence that the system is rigged.  Ponder how Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Donald Trump have all complained during their campaigns about the rigged system.  We see the evidence that manufactured housing was rigged. That rigging has arguably cost manufactured home owners more equity.  That rigging has cost millions of renters the opportunity to own. That rigging of the system has harmed the interests of thousands of manufactured housing independents. Longtime readers know we’ve made that case.

Dialogue with the Warren campaign, or any other campaign that sees the value of two potentially large and often overlooked voting blocks, could bridge the gap on other issues where we do not yet see eye-to-eye.

ClaytonHomesBerkshireHathawayMarketShareofManufacturedHousingEnd2017MHanufacturedHousingIndustryProNews

While several allegations of monopolistic practices have been made against Clayton Homes and Berkshire Hathaway, this website and MHLivingNews are the only ones to date that is known to have produced evidence, and provided to date this kind of logical, relevant data. Antitrust advocates will need proof, not just hot air. Evidence of how they rigged the system taken straight form their own documents and words are linked here.

What is certain is that Warren, if she wants to beat Senators Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, former VP Joe Biden or others, will have to set herself apart in a way that connects. She will need even more energy. We will naturally stay in touch with the White House, Team Trump, and others too.

We’ll play close attention, engage to the degree possible, and let our audience know. If you thought that 2016 was a wild campaign, hang on to your hats.  2020 could prove to be the most energetic campaign ever. “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, commentary, and analysis.)

Grasping True Value of the Green New Deal for America, Affordable Housing Professionals and Advocates

February 15th, 2019 No comments

GraspingTrueValueGreeNewDealForAmericaAffordableHousingProfessionalsandAdvocatesMastheadLATonyKovachMHProNews

Every romance or seduction, each marketing pitch or sale, and every con job begins with a common point of departure.  Something seemingly desirable is offered or promised.

The challenge becomes in discerning what is authentic and what is bogus.

The Green New Deal is the logical evolution of the direction that Democratic politics in the U.S. has been heading toward for years. It includes pledges and goals that involve housing, transportation, energy, incomes, healthcare, education, and more.

Right or wrong, the Green New Deal frankly builds on what came before it. An important element of the Green New Deal is the word “free.”

In marketing and selling “free” is a common phrase. Why? Because for decades, it has worked at attracting prospects and closing deals.

The question becomes can the party or person making a given offer deliver on the dangled pledge?

Senator Bernie Sanders (VT-I, who caucuses with Democrats) and U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) (NY-D) make no secret about the fact that they believe in socialism. Give them and others like them credit for being up-front about their beliefs.

Among the points in the Green New Deal is the call for high-speed trains and an end to air travel. There are numerous challenges to achieving that in a decade. California Governor Gavin Newsome just announced the cancellation of much of that state’s high-speed rail project. Billions have been wasted, per their own statements.

Per CNBC,A decade ago, California voters approved Proposition 1A, authorizing nearly $10 billion in bond money for the construction of the high-speed rail system. Since the 2008 vote, though, the project been plagued by delays and cost overruns, and polls show most California voters want the funds to go for something else other than high-speed rail.” It could be 77 billion to 98 billion to complete the 520 mile project, which now might be done by 2033.

If California can’t make high-speed rail work for about 500 miles, how is it supposed to work for all of America in only 10 years, as the Green New Deal proposes?  See the Democratic plan’s overview, in their document linked here.

Local resistance to a large solar project in Virginia is another example of the environmental, cost, and other the challenges that the Green New Deal (GND) backers face.

There is one bright spot that we will look at for the GND. But much of the proposal faces practical, economic, modern, and historic challenges. If one summed up the problematic portions, it could be called a socialistic utopian dream. Let’s consider that historic track.

Historic

Modern Venezuela is a tragic economic and political basket case. A nation that was far more prosperous only a decade ago is now being held together by the military. The very guns that Sanders and AOC would take from citizens in the U.S. – given the chance – is what Venezuela’s police and military must threaten or use to keep those who were promised a socialist utopia from rebelling against their living hell.

The term “Nazi” is a contraction of “National Socialist.” It’s a leftist perspective, not a conservative one.

NaziProgramFordhamUniversitySocialismMastheadManufacturedHousingIndustryMHProNews

The Nazis came to power through bold lies, organized terror, and intimidation tactics. Free healthcare and other aspects akin to parts of the Democratic agenda of today was promised by the Nazis.  The above is from Fordham, what’s below is per the BBC.

NaziProgramSummaryBBCMastheadBlogManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

But those big, bold early lies and deceptions resulted in death camps.  Their concentration camps were slave labor.  One kind of social ill was arguably replaced by far worse ones. The loss of freedom by Germans to the Nazi regime was held together by propaganda, secret police, a surveillance state, and the point of a gun or bayonet.

Cuba. Soviet Russia. Red China. They all followed similar patterns to modern Venezuela or Nazi Germany. Promises were made but were not kept. The big lie was what began the journey down the path of a loss of personal, economic, religious, and economic freedom.

The Green New Deals True Value is…

The true value of the Green New Deal is to reveal the combination of hypocrisy, ignorance, corruption, and/or lunacy of those who promote or obscure its reality.

The true value of the Green New Deal (GND) is that if it is properly exposed, it can for a time beat back the decades of deception that led Americans to this tipping point.

Abraham Lincoln said that America could only be conquered from within. Here’s how he phrased it, per BrainyQuote.

America will never be destroyed from the outside.
If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves
.”

Showman P.T. Barnum cautioned that “There is a sucker born every minute.”

Samuel Clemens, writing under his famous pen name of Mark Twain, mocked the liars and con artists of his day like this: “Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.”

Leaders grasp nettles,” said David Ogilvy a military officer who became known as the known as the “Father of Advertising.” Give President Trump credit for grasping the nettles and saying that America will never be a socialist country. Time will tell if that call to action is successful.

The battle of good vs. evil reportedly goes back before the dawn of humanity. God created angels, says the Scriptures. Some of them decided not to serve. The devil known as Satan led humans via the subtle lie into temptation too. What was that lie?

You will be like God, knowing good and evil.” The subtlety was that Scripture says that God had already made Adam and Eve in the Creator’s own “image and likeness.”

Free enterprise is based upon a free and authentic exchange, not forced coercion or deception. The Ten Commandments, properly understood, are what society needs to govern the behavior of people.

Those of us fortunate enough to have learned in junior high school that “there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch,” or “TANSTAAFL” already realize that someone always pays.

The payment for socialism’s false promises are a loss of freedom.

As affordable housing professionals, investors, and advocates must clench that the battle for America involves information vs. misinformation. The fight for America include media wars, cultural allurements, legislative, regulatory, capital access, and organizational struggles.

One potentially good thing about the Green New Deal? It takes an antitrust stance. When one steps back and sees what is actually happening in our industry and America at large, the steady of consolidation of wealth and power is being achieved through monopolistic practices.  Break up those monopolies, if they were accomplished through illicit means, fine them each the tens of billions that they’ve arguably cost our nation and its people. See the related reports for more.

Manufactured homes are the most proven form of largely unsubsidized affordable housing in the U.S. This once greater in scope industry nevertheless is producing its best value homes ever. Yet they are misunderstood.

MostMenAppearnNeverConsideredWhatHouseIsNeedlesslyPoorAllTheirLivesHenryDavidThoreauManufacturedHomeLivingNews

2018DataShareofHousingMarketManufacturedHousingInfographicDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews612

That too is akin to the cause and effect of what’s led our nation and this industry to this nexus. Independents? Investors? The Green New Deal is Chinese word for crisis, which is danger as well as opportunity.

The chance to break free of the grip of those who peddle misinformation for their own benefit may have never been greater for the U.S. than at any time in the last 50 years. That may be the bottom line true value of the Green New Deal. “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, commentary, and analysis.)

Affordable Housing – Fleetwood, Champion, Clayton – Genius of the Christmas Story

December 22nd, 2018 No comments

AffordableHousingFleetwoodChampionClaytonGeniusChristmasStoryMastheadManufacturedHomeMHProNews

Depending on who’s estimate we accept, there’s some 550,000 to 660,000 homeless in the richest nation on earth, the U.S.A. As rents rise, so does homelessness, says Zillow’s research, which supplied the higher homeless count. With some $22 trillion dollars spent on “Great Society” programs as of a 2014 Heritage Foundation report, one must ask – how much waste, fraud, corruption, and ineffectiveness is there at the federal level alone?

The U.S. homeownership rate doesn’t place us in the top 40 nations on earth, how is that possible?

And it’s almost Christmas.

The genius of the Christmas story is so vast that it can’t be fully grasped in any one article, or book. It can be viewed in a variety of accurate ways. Suffice for now to note that Mary and Joseph were home-owners, not per se ‘homeless.’ Rather, they were traveling when the couple finally found shelter in a stable.

What sparked their journey, so late in Mary’s pregnancy? Because the Roman Emperor Caesar had mandated a census count for tax and other purposes. They had to travel to Bethlehem, because it was mandated by imperial decree – their law.

The carpenter and his family experienced what it was like to be homeless. For what Christians call the “Holy Family,” that stable they sheltered in for the Christ child’s birth may have been in a cave.  For thousands in towns like Los Angeles or San Francisco, it may be tents, a cardboard box, dumpster, or a sleeping bag. The ‘luckier’ homeless in the U.S. are living in vehicles, not designed for residential purposes.

Why is it so in the U.S., two thousand years after the birth of Jesus?

There are many causes, of course. Here on MHProNews we track, research, follow-the-money, and report our findings daily on certain aspects of news and view that routinely relate to the broader issue of affordable homes and public policies.

The Holy Family weren’t Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Green, Socialists, Communists, or any other political or special interest group – which isn’t a slur on any of the member of those groups, just a statement of fact.  But with so many who claim to be Christians, it’s no wonder each of those political groups’ leadership periodically gloms onto the moving Christmas tale, spinning or weaponizing what occurred for their own purposes.

Rather, the Jewish Joseph and Mary were faithful, non-partisan, working-class people.

For thousands of years, there’s been dictators like Caesar, or shrewd (unethical) business people who’ve rigged their scales to give less than what a buyer bargained for.

Before there was Clayton Homes in contemporary manufactured housing, there was what we should clearly state is the OLD Fleetwood Homes and PREVIOUS Champion Homes that were affordable manufactured home builders. The old Fleetwood and Champion of the 1990s were in a race to buy up chunks of the industry in their day.  The two firms often paid hefty premiums for retail locations, hoping thereby to increase their market shares, also thereby narrowing the distribution networks of competitors products.

As Warren Buffett observed in an annual letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders that in 1998 Fleetwood, Champion, and Oakwood – then the Big Three of manufactured housing – has some 44% of the market. According to data from the now defunct Manufactured Home Merchandiser Magazine, the top three that year – Champion, Fleetwood, and Oakwood – produced 172,723 of the 372,843 total HUD Code manufactured homes shipped that year, or 46.3 percent of the total.

By 2017, it was Berkshire owned Clayton Homes that had some 50 percent market share, although they claim in their annual report that it was ‘only’ 47.7%. Unlike the old Champion and prior Fleetwood, Buffett’s brand Clayton Homes didn’t overpay for retail outlets, factories, or anything else.  Rather, Berkshire’s subsidiaries bought locations, loans, and businesses at a discount – a ‘value’ – as investors understandably call it.

There are numerous questions that should arise from this outline.  For example, two decades ago – when it was Champion and Fleetwood that dominated the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) – how different was it from how the Berkshire brands in manufactured housing dominate MHI today?

Community owners didn’t feel well represented in the old MHI.  So, they forged the National Communities Council (NCC) side of MHI. There are MHI/NCC members – some from the large companies – that tell MHProNews that they still don’t feel well represented. Is it a surprise that a new national MH Communities association is coming to birth?

Among resident groups, there are squabbles and contests too. GSMOL, for example, wags a finger at MHAction, saying the later are taking credit for things that the GSMOL accomplished. On the professional side of MHVille, the independent producers’ Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) similarly asserts that MHI often takes credit for things that MHARR or others accomplished. Interesting, isn’t it?

Meanwhile, there are thousands of professionals – and millions of residents – all trying to earn an honest living. Their struggle is often more about battling systems that are often arguably “rigged” by the “big boys” against the smaller businesses and the masses of workers and retirees whom they seek to serve.

Then, millions more trapped in rentals that one protest leader said was “too damn high.”

But negative media like the problematic Netflix series the “Trailer Park Boys” fuels stereotypes that cause many to never consider what the GAO, NAR, Fannie Mae, Ford Foundation, HUD, and other third-party researchers called the most affordable, permanent, and safe – yes safe – new homes in America.

Inaccurate stereotypes, the propagation of misleading information, stigmas, and corrupted, rigged systems all are contributing factors to the tragedy of over a half-million homeless and relatively low rates of home ownership in the U.S.A. today.

Scales, information, and systems are usually rigged in order to cheat the many to benefit a few. It was so thousands of years ago, and it is similar so today.

But angels reportedly sang at the birth of the child Jesus whose birth into a sinful and corrupted world we celebrate on Christmas.  Wise men came from afar bearing gifts to curiously see first-hand what that star over Bethlehem was all about.

We are wise when we ponder the deeper meanings of the Christmas story too.

As we bring or open our gifts for each other, let’s remember that a greedy and power hungry few are working to manipulate scales, information, and the masses, for their own benefit. That’s arguably why there’s still so much poverty, and why millions in America are trapped in Mr. Potter’s rentals, and don’t own a home.

Affordable Homes, Warren Buffett as Mr. Potter in Christmas Classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life”

May the inspiration of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus enlighten our minds, hearts, and hands to do whatever is just and good. Because the honest actions of the few – then and now – can uplift the many, inspire the wise, and bring out the good in others.  The honest truth always what sparks change for-the-better in our world.

Merry Christmas to all. ## (“We Provide, You Decide.” © ## – (News, Masthead commentary, and analysis.)

Prosperity Now, Protests, Indivisible Project, Warren Buffett, George Soros, POTUS Donald Trump, MHAction and Manufactured Housing – Following the Money

November 9th, 2018 No comments

Prosperity Now. MHAction. Indivisible Project. Billionaires George Soros and Warren Buffett. Each of those are all interconnected. Each of those are involved in protests against manufactured home businesses, President Donald J. Trump, and his supporters.

Who says?

Let’s follow the facts, evidence, and the money trail.

1)    The billionaire George Soros funded “…Open Society funds are only a small percentage of Tides‘ total…” budget, says the Tide Foundation’s own website.  It’s in a post by Tides on their own website entitled “Why does the right hate Soros?

Rephrased, the self-proclaimed progressive Tides Foundation admits the connection between Soros, the Open Society and George Soros.

2)    As MHProNews and MHLivingNews have previously reported, the Tides Foundation also has major funding via other foundations by Warren Buffett.

Buffett, as focused manufactured home industry pros and observers know, is Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, which owns giant Clayton Homes, Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance, 21st Mortgage, Shaw Carpeting, and other firms that are in or supply housing and factory-builders. Berkshire is widely seen as the dominating force behind the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI). Thousands of industry professionals were no doubt surprised that Buffett’s money flowed through Tides to anti-manufactured home community protesters, MHAction.

ICYMI, or want to refresh your mind, see two of those reports documenting ties between Tides, Buffett and MHAction, see the above and below.

Expose! Why Has Warren Buffett/BH Funded Anti-MHC Activists, MHAction? Why Fund Attacks on ELS, Frank Rolfe, Blackstone Group?

  1. Thanks to Tim Williams, 21st Mortgage Corp, There’s More…

We believe in giving credit where it is due, whenever possible.

Tim Williams, the prior MHI Chairman, and the 21st Mortgage Corp president and CEO, mentioned something a couple of years ago in a conversation with me that will connect to this picture.  We’ll spotlight that tie-in to this follow-the-facts, evidence and money report in the days ahead.

But my hunch is that when he reads this – and our sources say that he will – Tim just may recall what we’re teasing as the next shoe to drop for the MH Berkshire brands, MHI, et al.

Tim, thanks again.  In hindsight, that was a very insightful conversation.  Thank God for the gift of memory, right?

While some can’t be roused by anything, for others that report will be an earthquake for many in MHVille. We hope to have it in time for Thanksgiving. If you aren’t yet on our email list, you can sign up at the link shown on the banner.

Moving on now to the balance of the headline topic.

  1. Influence Watch, and The Indivisible Project, Soros and Buffett

Influence Watch is one of several organizations that track the often befuddling trail between various non-profits, foundations, and deep pockets like billionaires Buffett and Soros. Here’s what their research reveals.

The Indivisible Project (or Indivisible) is a left-of-center 501(c)(4) tax-exempt organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., and created in late 2016 as a response to the election of President Donald Trump. The Indivisible Project was established to provide liberals a practical guide about “Resisting the Trump Agenda.” [1] Despite connections to elite donors, Indivisible claims to be a grassroots movement. The organization was founded by two left-wing activists with congressional experience and ties to the left-of-center economic policy advocacy group Prosperity Now.[2] According to a spokesperson within the organization, Indivisible’s goal for 2018 is to replace all elected officials who don’t reflect their views with “diverse, progressive, local leaders.”[3] [4] Indivisible claims to represent over 5,800 groups and has a website that has been viewed over 18 million times.[5]

I can almost hear the sweat rolling off a few foreheads in Knoxville, Arlington, and Washington, D.C. based Prosperity Now. Some industry friends and colleagues of mine should also take notice of this too, because they know where these dot-connections are leading.

Here’s what they say about funding.

  1. Indivisible Financial Overview

Indivisible has published the nonprofit’s revenue from both its 501(c)(3) Indivisible Civics, and 501(c)(4) Indivisible Project for 2017.[9] In 2017, Indivisible raised “a total of $7.5 million,” with “$2.8 million” through the 501(c)(3) and “$4.7 million” through the 501(c)(4). Over the course of 2017, Indivisible was fiscally sponsored by the Tides Foundation and the Advocacy Fund (a Tides affiliate) until it “was granted 501(c)(4) status from the IRS” during the tax year.[10]

Of Indivisible’s 2017 revenue, 35 percent was raised through small dollar donations, and 65 percent was received through major gifts and foundation grants. [11] Of the $7.5 million raised, $3.4 million was spent on organization expenses,” according to Influence Watch.

  1. Founders of Indivisible

Established by left-wing activists Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg in December 2016, Indivisible was originally organized as a movement along the lines of the conservative Tea Party opposition to President Barack Obama’s administration. [6] To that end, Levin and Greenberg’s first project was a 26-page political organizing manual entitled “A Practical Guide for Resisting the Trump Agenda. The manual highlighted the best methods to “beat back” President Trump and defeat the new conservative majority in Congress.[7]Since that original document was distributed, the movement has evolved into an effort to disrupt civil discourse and “sustain a powerful progressive movement.”[8]

Keep in mind that Prosperity Now is pro-manufactured housing, progressive operation, but is also favorable to issues like rent-control and has taken other problematic positions.  Prosperity Now used to be known as CFED. More on them in the days ahead.

  1. What Kevin Clayton said…

Now, with the above in mind, you see:

  • Non-profits
  • Foundations
  • Deep-pocket billionaires, including George Soros and Kevin Clayton’s boss, Warren Buffett.

With the above in mind, circle back to that video of Kevin Clayton in Smoking Gun 3.  Recall how Kevin was virtually gushing in that video about Clayton working with foundations and nonprofits?

Smoking Gun 3 – Warren Buffett, Kevin Clayton, Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage Corp Tim Williams – Manufactured Home Lending, Sales Grab?

Is the bigger picture coming into focus?

Facts & Analysis – Senator Elizabeth Warren re: Manufactured Housing Institute Memo to MHI Members, 10-3-2018

Now, keep in mind that companies associated with MHI, including but not limited to, Clayton and Cavco, are under various kinds of federal investigations.

Cavco Chairman Joseph H. Stegmayer Steps Down Under SEC Cloud, “Personal, Confidential” SEC Document, Cavco Industries’ Statement

News of Cavco’s SEC woes just broke this week.  But MHProNews has been reporting for some years about Clayton-Berkshire related federal investigations. Certainly, people are innocent in the eyes of the law until proven guilty.  That said, when there is smoke, is there a fire?

Much, Not All

The manufactured housing industry has been gamed by a rigged system for years.  Our industry once had hundreds of manufacturers, and literally tens of thousands of independent retailers. Some of those vanished due to natural events.  But others have arguably fallen due to unjust manipulation of regulatory, capital, political and other forces.

It is now becoming clear that protesters are just part of a broader plan. We’re political independents, and we strongly assert that most of the Democrats or MHI members that we personally know are fine people.  But they have often been mislead into believing certain things harmful to their interests.  A decade ago, the same could be said about swaths of the GOP too.

President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump is disrupting the rigged system.  That’s why elites in both major parties opposed him tooth and nail.  He is arguably taking the Republican Party, and turning it into a small-to-midsized business, white and blue collar workers party. He’s taken elements from both major parties, and is blending it into something new.

That’s a threat to everything that billionaires who control the Democratic party stand for, because the rigged system has purportedly made them billions of dollars. That’s why the invest so heavily in it.

We’re all for bipartisanship, and working with people of all backgrounds. But that starts with facts and evidence. If you or anyone you know can find any factual errors in the above, by all means, let us know.

is short for this acronym:

Democratic Exit
Facebook
Amazon
Netflix
Google
Berkshire Hathaway (includes Clayton Homes, lenders Vanderbilt MF, 21st Mortgage, et al)
Microsoft

The companies listed ought to broken up under federal antitrust laws.

Not regulated. Broken up. Don’t worry, the world didn’t stop when the AT&T monopoly was broken up in the 1980s, America benefited. Affordable cell phones and the internet followed the break up of the old AT&T trust (monopoly).

Similarly today, the breakup of #FangBM would be good for the economy, jobs, and consumers.

Why would these 6 companies/conglomerates – #FangBM – feature leadership that promote failed ideas, like socialism?  Why have many Democratic leaders embraced socialism?

Why have Democratic leaders – like the following listed – decry billionaires, but then take money from those same billionaires and their affiliates?

   Bill and Hillary Clinton

   Barack Obama

   Bernie Sanders

   Nancy Peolsi

   Chuck Schumer

   Elizabeth Warren

   Maxine Waters

   Tom Perez

   Keith Ellison

Or other Democratic leaders like them? That’s why, it’s #DeFangBM

Why do rich and famous stars or performers endorse the above? #ManipulativeEntertainment

Why do so many in mainstream media give cover to the above? #FakeNews

There’s an echo chamber effect of many in media and #ManipulativeEntertainment carrying the message of the billionaire #FangBM conglomerates and their paid political operatives above.

This is NOT against members of the Democratic Party. We have friends and colleagues who have been or are Democrats. But you don’t let a friend drive drunk, and you warn your friends about to vote Democratic for similar reasons. It’s an act of love to honestly share the truth.

Nor does this mean that the GOP is perfect. But right now – writing as a political independent – the #NewRepublicans are the better choice who are fighting for everyday Americans, and most honest businesses.

Two Part Solution

Part one, vote against all Democrats. #DemocraticExit, #WalkAway. Democrats were the party of the violent Ku Klux Klan (KKK), Slavery, and Jim Crow Laws. Democrats are the party of violent AntiFa or of deceptive #MHAction. Democrats have deceived many for years, to the harm of millions of Americans, and thousands of honest small- to mid-sized businesses.

Part Two

As political independents, not a member of either major party, a #RedTide in the House and Senate on Tuesday allows this new breed of:

   American Jobs First,

   American Businesses First,

   American Security First,

   American Prosperity First,

#AmericaFirst in the GOP –  a.k.a. the Republican Party – to return to the roots of the Republican Party that gave us #PresidentAbrahamLincoln and #PresidentRonaldReagan.

Keep in mind #POTUSLincoln and #POTUSReagan had strong opposition too.

Today’s #NewRepublicans should break up the conglomerates listed above (trusts, monopolies).  Only the federal government is big enough to break them up. Breaking up #FangBM via #DeFangBM is good for the #AmericaFirst economy. It is pro-free enterprise, by being against crony-capitalists who back socialists.

The #POTUSTrump Administration antitrust (anti-monopoly) order is already drafted, but a Democratic House or Senate could work to stop it. That block against antitrust must be avoided by sharing the #DeFangBM truth and then voting wisely.

No organization, party or person is perfect, and that includes President Donald J. Trump. #POTUSTrump never pretended to be a saint. Candidate Trump admitted he used the system, which is why he knew how to fight this rigged system.

But there are reasons why members of his own party fought him, because he is challenging the #RiggedSystem. This has not been pretty, nor will it be. The rich and famous who may have come by their wealth in often manipulating or #RiggedSystem ways won’t give up their power without a fight.

Once this new #AmericaFirst #NewGOP has a strong hold in the #USHouse, #USSenate and the #ExecutiveBranch, #antitrust laws must break up the parents of the #FakeNews media giants and the companies listed in #DeFangBM.

#DrainTheSwamp takes time. The swamp wasn’t built overnight, and won’t be cured overnight. Freedom takes time and effort, but it is always worth it. There is already real progress being made toward #MAGA. American jobs are coming back. American wealth is returning. #CommonSense is making a come back too.

Vote to keep the momentum going. #VoteRepublican, #VoteNewRepublicans, vote to support the #StableGeniusPresident. ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing,’ paraphrasing #EdmundBurke.
